On the edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park, Ellen House Matlock bed and breakfast accommodation is a perfect base from which to explore this scenic region of England. The Victorian town offers all sorts of shops, places to eat and public amenities. The transport links between Matlock and surrounding towns and also throughout the Midlands are good.

Walkers

Numerous walks of varying lengths starting from the front door of our Derbyshire B&B. We'll offer you suggestions, leaflets & maps. The Limestone Way starts just 100 yards down the road.

Cyclists

We cater for you, dry your clothes and store your cycles securely undercover. This is great cycling country and a short distance from Ellen House B&B are disused railway line tracks re-designed for cycling. If you have not brought your bike there are six hire shops in the area.

Car Tours

There are endless scenic lanes & quaint Derbyshire villages to explore. Again, we'll advise and lend you maps.

Transport enthusiasts

Just 10 minutes walk from our Derbyshire B&B you'll be able to see steam & diesel trains at Peak Rail. Crich Tramway Village is just 10 minutes drive.

Genealogists

You can take a short walk into town and continue the search for your ancestry at the County Records Office.

National Trust Members

Well worth the 30 minute drive are Kedlestone & Hardwick Halls. Within easy reach also are Calke Abbey & Sudbury Hall.

You can "shop till you drop" in Nottingham, Derby or Sheffield. You'll need a day to explore the retail outlets at Masson Mill, Peak Village or McArthur Glen.
